Dental Aspects of
Weight Loss Surgeries (WLS)
This course is designed to
introduce the dental professional to the world
of Bariatric surgery. More people choose weight
loss surgery as a treatment for morbid obesity
today than ever before. There is a great need
out there for these patients to be educated on
how this surgery with not only affect their
overall health, but specifically their dental
health.
Course Objectives:
At the end of the course
participants shall be able to:

patients need the support of not only their
family, friends and medical providers, but they
need the support of the dental community. The
role of the dental clinician in communicating
information in regarding dental health is
critical to success. This course is designed to
enable the dental professional to understand the
patient's aspect of weight loss surgery so that
they can better plan long term treatment and is
ideal for the entire dental team.
Lori J. Brogna, RDH has
been a clinical dental hygienist for 10 years.
Her enthusiasm and passion for this topic comes
from personal experience and her education as a
dental hygienist. She is an active member of
the American Dental Hygienists' Association.
She has served as president of the Utah Dental
Hygienists' Association and is currently serving
as ADHA District X Trustee.
