The difference between a "C&P" and a "LQ" hygienist!
Back to main page Just what is a "C&P" and a "LQ" hygienist?
The Listers in this email community are caring and knowledgeable.  We never really developed our own language that lists sometimes create except for these two abbreviations, LQ an C&P.  Every now and then one of us has a frustration with a hygienist who won't periochart, won't treat disease, and in effect comes to work only to Chat with people and Polish their teeth.  The term C&P has come to be shorthand for this type of dental hygienist.

The counter to that, reflecting the kind of dental hygienist who freely gives another hour or more after work every day to read the posted emails and respond, or prints off the information to take to work the next morning in an effort to learn and teach others has come to be known as a Lister Quality or LQ dental hygienist.  This kind of hygienist is open to the idea that bleeding is not a good indicator of periodontal infection, understands that there is a mouth-body connection.  The LQ is looking for new ways to treat patients, and work in harmony with a dentist, not just punch a clock.
