CEU Program #1Title: What the Patient Can Expect and the Dental Team Should Know About Dental Implants Format and Time Frame: Lecture, slide, and discussion in a three-hour presentation Content: As more dental patients are seeking dental implants as viable restorative options, they have many concerns or questions regarding the total implant experience. As a member of the dental team, would you know how to answer their questions or address their concerns? This program, geared toward hygienists and assistants, will review basic implant systems, discuss patient selection, surgical stages and prosthetic choices, and review home care options. The role of the dental team in implant dentistry and the hygienists’ maintenance protocols will be discussed. Portions of this program have been prepared with slides and information from the Association of Dental Implant Auxiliaries and Practice Management’s Dental Hygiene Implant Certification Program. The ADIA & PM’s Dental Hygiene Implant Certification program is a full-day (6-7 hour) program. This comprehensive program provides an overview of dental implantology for hygienists and other dental team members. It covers surgical, prosthetic, and maintenance considerations; as well as treatment planning, historical overview of implants, and verbal skills needed to effectively work with implant patients. Attendees may qualify to become members of the ADIA&PM upon payment of dues and completion of appropriate paperwork. Speaker is available to present the DHICP (all day) program as well. CEU Program #2Title: TMD-TMJ, What is It All About? It has been estimated by the National Institutes of Health that approximately 10 million people are affected. As hygienists, many are unaware of the signs, symptoms, and treatments available for these patients. This course will provide the dental hygienist, who may have only the basic knowledge of the TM joint, with a very detailed and informed presentation involving the structure and function of the joint, etiological factors of disease, examination and evaluation methods used, and treatment modalities offered. The role of the dental hygienist in TMD will also be discussed. A personal discussion will also be offered. CEU Program #3Title: Recognizing Childhood Developmental Delays Format and Time Frame: Lecture, slide, videotape, and discussions in two-hour program Description: As hygienists we are in a unique position to assist our patients in the maintenance and improvement of their general medical and dental health. This can be true for even our youngest patients and their families or caregivers. Early recognition of childhood developmental delays and the appropriate referrals to the proper sources can reduce the amount of frustration and anxiety that can be seen in later years for the parent and child. This program will briefly review some early developmental signs and what the hygienist can do to assist the parent in recognition of developmental delays. Discussion of the physically or mentally challenged child is not provided. This program can also be given as a three-hour program, but two videos would be presented rather than one. The mission of the program is to educate attendees regarding the non-clinical aspects of dental implantology. The program will present topics including case presentation, answers to frequently asked questions, financial arrangements, medical/dental insurance, motivation, and marketing. This program will give all auxiliaries (front office, assistants, hygienists), an overview of practice management as it relates to dental implants and the dental implant practice. Or conversely, what makes offices ineffective and the overall dental experience negative? Some things are out of dental team members control such as salary, overhead and production issues, but there are other issues where the members of the dental team can be an integral part. This two-hour discussion will review the habits that make effective dental offices and give ideas to promote the dental experience. Portions of this program are excerpted from the Association of Dental Implant Auxiliaries program “Habits of Effective Offices”.
